Test Construction


  • Construction of test items should begin as you prepare to teach the material.
  • What do you plan for the student to learn.
  • How will student be able to demonstrate that they have learned.
  • Class time should be used to stress the material that you want student to master
Types of Test items

  • True-False
  • Short answer
  • Fill in the blanks
  • Multiple choice
  • Matching
  • Essay
  

  • Remember what you stress in class
  • If possible, make out possible test item as you teach the materials
  • When reusing old test items, remember such things as a change in textbook, updating of notes or changes in your presentation
  • Teach what you want students to learn and then test what you taught
  • A test items has served its purpose if those who have mastered the materials answer correctly and all others no matter how test wise.
